EQUIPMENT GUIDe

We have put together some information that should help you in deciding on what equipment to buy. Please remember that we do not require our athletes to buy their own bats. Each athlete should own their own glove. We also encourage that every athlete own their own helmet for hygiene proposes, however team helmets are available. Each team will have a few bats and helmets that can be shared by the team. Catchers gear is provided by the club. If you are looking to purchase a bat, glove, or helmet, please use the following information as a resource.

 BATS

 GLOVES

Especially for younger players, choosing a glove comes down to fit and function. In other words, how a glove performs when on your hand is paramount. Additionally, it must be easy to close, lightweight enough to maneuver and help inspire confidence on the field. The first step in choosing the right baseball or softball glove is to determine what size glove is right for the player based on age and hand size. A comfortable range where any beginner should be able to find a comfortable, easy-to-use glove is between 10.75 and 12” depending on age. Reference the charts below for more information.

 HELMETS

In terms of sizing, batting helmets vary few and far between. Manufacturers can use different measurements, but are relatively around the same size. A good tip is to treat the process like you would when buying a hat. Find the measurement of the circumference of your head and correlate it to the closest size available, which can be found in the chart below. To help determine if your helmet fits right, you can use the shake test as a guide. Place the helmet on your head and give it a few good shakes. If it moves around too much, try going down a size or buy a padding kit so you can guarantee a more accurate fit. You also want to make sure that your helmet sits about an inch above your eyebrow and that it fits evenly on your head. If it’s tilted up, you run the risk of taking a ball to the forehead when batting or running the bases. The same applies if the helmet tilts too far forward — the back of your head will be exposed, which could pose a risk.
